08-08-08 Beijing Olympics
The Olympics begin tonight! I watched the beautiful opening ceremony with very mixed emotions. I am so excited to see all the beauty of China, the China people, and the pageantry of the program. I too am a little sad as I hoped I would be sharing this moment with my daughter from China. I am trying to take it all in so I will be able to tell her about it after she gets here. Did her mother and father watch the program? Were they in the program? I am so enthralled with the beautiful people and costumes that were in the program. My favorite part of the program was the parade of women in the elaborate dresses. I thought they were beautiful.
I love the Olympics and watch it every day it is on. I find myself loving the sports I usually don't even watch. I cry when we win a gold medal and love watching the medal ceremonies. My favorite events are the women's gymnastics, since I was a gymnast in high school. I love swimming since so many athletes swim for Auburn. I love diving as it is beautiful. And recently, I have developed a fondness of beach volleyball. It is so exciting! I will, however, have to skip the boxing events. I really just do not like boxing at all. It does, however, make me laugh with a memory of my father. He used to watch boxing on TV and when I would glance at him he was shrugging his shoulders and punching the air to help each boxer throw their punches. It was pretty funny as he would get into it so much!
I'm sure I will have some other ramblings as the games continue. Go USA and Go CHINA!
